LG Leader Guide | Week of 10.5.25
Hello LG Leaders!
We had our first Send Saturday this past weekend, and about 40 people participated! Wow, way to go! I heard testimonies of gospel seeds sown and steps of faith taken to share the love of Jesus with others. I am excited to see how God works in us and through us as we continue these monthly.
We also continued our 'Go and Make Disciples' sermon series last Sunday by examining Acts 3:1-21. Even though the title in my Bible says, “Peter Heals A Lame Beggar”, what Peter says in the Scripture is, “Don’t look at me, look at Jesus!”.
We see that healing is a sign and a wonder that points to the Kingdom of God coming in part now. Now, in Jesus, we can have our sins wiped out, times of refreshing, and a foretaste of full restoration to come.
In the sermon, I explained how both redemptive healing and redemptive suffering are present throughout the book of Acts. We frequently see disciples empowered by the Spirit to perform miraculous healings in Jesus' name throughout the book. However, it’s not just one big Holy Spirit healing and deliverance party; the church also endures a lot of suffering. The Spirit empowers some disciples to be a witness when they DO NOT receive healing (or are not rescued from prison). Their redemptive suffering advances the Gospel in even more profound ways than miracles. Even Jesus, who healed thousands of people in his earthly ministry, did his most significant healing act by suffering on the cross for our sins.
I know this topic is tender for many. Praying for the Lord to bring healing to our hearts, minds, and bodies as we may engage in these conversations with compassion.
I also pray that God would teach us to love people by growing in the spiritual gift of healing.
